Hockey Player

The Resume

    (May 15, 1914-October 17, 1972)
    Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada
    Died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs (1935–43, 1946–51)
    Vezina Trophy winner (1941, 1948)
    Five-time Stanley Cup champion (1942, 1947-49, 1951)
Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (1967)

Why he might be annoying:

He was mistakenly considered of Polish descent -- even being inducted into the Polish American Sports Hall of Fame -- when in reality he was of Ukrainian descent.
His full nickname was 'Turkey Egg,' dating back to his school days because of his freckles.
He was originally in the Detroit Red Wings system, but was deemed expendable by the team and had his contract sold to the Leafs for cash payments.
He often butted heads with his coach, Conn Smythe, as a result of his weight struggles.
He had a tendency to allow soft goals at key times.

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite his weight struggles, he turned into a key cog in the Leafs dynasty run in the 1940's.
He was considered one of the league's toughest and durable goaltenders in his era, prior to the introduction of masks and padding.
He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II.
In addition to his Stanley Cup pedigree, he won a Memorial Cup championship and a Calder Cup championship earlier in his career.
In an odd coincidence, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame months after the Leafs won their most recent (as of 2017) Stanley Cup championship.
