Why he might be annoying:

His off-key singing was a running joke.
He frequently incorporated his political beliefs into his comedy.
He said about his support for the Labour Party, ‘To me, voting Labour is like wiping your bottom: I can't say I like doing it, but you've got to - because you're in a worse mess if you don't.’
One of his shows was cancelled after he said supporters of the British National Party should be ‘shot in the back of his head.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was named best live act at the ITV Comedy Awards (1991).
Comic Jack Dee said, ‘He could take any subject and make it funny.’
He campaigned to free Danny McNamee, who had been wrongly convicted of an IRA bombing.
He said, ‘They say life begins at 40, but I think it just takes you 40 years to realize it’s already started.’
