She took on a real real '80s '80s name name.
She heard Madonna was discovered by Bronx native Jellybean Benitez and snuck out of her family apartment at night to sing, hoping the same would happen to her.
Full Force wasn't looking for the 'next Madonna' as much as they wanted a 'young singer with a clean voice that teen girls could sing along with and easily imitate.'
She left Cult Jam in 1993 to try her hand at a solo career and recorded the album 'LL77.' It bombed.

She was born in Hell's Kitchen and grew up in poverty.
Between auditions, she worked for a clothing manufacturer folding sweaters.
She helped popularize the Freestyle (Latin hip hop) music movement of the '80s.
Both 'Head To Toe' and 'Lost In Emotion' hit #1 on Billboard's singles charts in 1987.
