Author
    (June 14, 1949- )
    Born in Los Angeles, California
Author of science fiction, fantasy, and alternative history
Book series include ‘Videssos,’ ‘Worldwar’/’Colonization,’ ‘Southern Victory,’ ‘Darkness’ (aka ‘World at War’), ‘War Between the Provinces,’ ‘Crosstime Traffic,’ ‘Days of Infamy,’ ‘Atlantis,’ ‘Opening of the World,’ ‘The War That Came Early,’ ‘Supervolcano,’ ‘The Hot War,’ and ‘State of Jefferson’

He flunked out of CalTech his freshman year because he could not do calculus.
He wrote his earliest books under a pen name because his publisher argued that readers would not believe that ‘Turtledove’ was a real name.
The later books in his longer story cycles often start with characters engaged in ‘exposition speak’ to get the readers caught up.
The sex scenes in his books tend to be awkward.
He went to UCLA and earned a doctorate in Byzantine history.
Publishers Weekly dubbed him ‘the master of alternative history.’
He cowrote the alternative history novel ‘The Two Georges’ with Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss.
He said, ‘Fiction has to be plausible. All history has to do is happen.’
