    (September 14, 1910-March 15, 2001)
    Republican Congressman from Missouri (1961-1973)
What kind of first name is Durward?
Barry Goldwater considered him to be the only person more conservative than he was in Congress.
He voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Voting Rights Act of 1965, and Civil Rights Act of 1968.
He continued to vote against civil rights in the 1970s, by which time many conservative Republicans in the south who had opposed civil rights in the 1960s were supporting civil rights.
He voted for the Equal Rights Amendment but in the same year he also voted against treating married women equal to men in the federal government.
The only deviation he made when it came to his conservatism was voting for the ABM Treaty, according to the American Conservative Union.
He served as a high-ranking medic during World War II.
    He supported youth organizations.
He opposed the troublesome policy of revenue sharing.
His body was donated to medical science.
