Actor
    (February 16, 1904-September 9, 1948)
Portrayed Uncle Remus and voiced Br'er Fox in 'Song of the South (1946)'
Appeared in 'Harlem is Heaven (1932),' 'Policy Man (1938)' and 'Revenge of the Zombies (1943)'
His song 'Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah' has been immortalized in those irritating Disney sing-along tapes.
His most famous film, 'Song of the South,' was labeled racist by the NAACP and has never been released on American video.
He voiced the animated Br'er Fox so quickly that animators couldn't synchronize it correctly.
His film performances outside of Uncle Remus were forgettable ('Revenge of the Zombies,' anyone?).
He died of heart failure only months after receiving an Oscar.
He was one of Walt Disney's personal favorite performers.
Due to his color, he couldn't go to the premiere of 'Song of the South' in Georgia.
He was the first live actor that Disney ever hired.
His role in 'Song of the South' earned him an honorary Oscar, making him the first black man to receive the award.
His rendition of 'Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah' remains a nostalgic favorite.
