The Resume

    (November 18, 1856-January 15, 1929)
    Born in St. Petersburg, Russia
Second cousin of Tzar Nicholas II
Inspector-general of the Imperial Cavalry (1895-1905)
Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army (1914-15)
Escaped during the Russian Revolution on a British warship (April, 1919)
Assumed command of Russian forces in exile (1924)

Why he might be annoying:

He was appointed Commander in Chief despite never having commanded an army in the field.
After being appointed, he reportedly ‘spent much of his time crying because he did not know how to approach his new duties.’
He proved to be incompetent in strategy, tactics, and logistics.
He supported using the arm to perform ethnic cleansing in Russia’s border areas, including deporting 250,000 Germans and 500,000 Jews.

Why he might not be annoying:

At 6’6, he was referred to as ‘Nicholas the Tall,’ while his cousin the Tzar was called ‘Nicholas the Short.’
During the Revolution of 1905, he refused the Tzar’s request that he become military dictator, instead persuading Nicholas II to adopt political reforms.
Despite his failings, he was well liked by the officers and soldiers serving under him.
