    Won two gold medals in the marathon at the Pan American Games (1999-2000)
    Won a bronze medal in the marathon at the XXVIII Summer Olympics (Athens 2004)

Why he might be annoying:

    He has a really long name.
    His hopes for an Olympic gold medal were dashed when Cornelius Horan shoved him into a crowd of spectators during the marathon at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
    The Brazilian Athletics Confederation filed an appeal asking that he be awarded a second gold medal in the marathon, but the appeal was rejected.
    He never reached the same career peak in his post-Olympic career.
    Chronic muscular pain forced him to retire in 2007.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He also competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
    He received the Pierre de Coubertin medal for his sportsman-like conduct in the aftermath of the marathon race at the Athens Olympics.
    He declined to accept Brazilian beach volleyball player Emanuel Rego's gold medal from the 2004 Summer Olympics saying that his bronze medal and Coubertin award meant more to him.
    He replaced Pele as the final torchbearer and cauldron lighter at the Opening Ceremonies for the XXXI Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (August 5, 2016).
