Why he might be annoying:

    He was arrested and imprisoned for opposing non-religious policies in Iran (1963).
    He was exiled from Iran and fled to Iraq and later Paris (1964).
    He returned to Iran to overthrow the Shah and turn Iran into a shite islamic country.
    He took rights away from women and ended secular (non-religious) education in Iran.
    During his first two years in power, he had many of his opponents executed.
    He was the leader during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88).
    When he accept a U.N. negotiated truce he said he 'drank the cup of poison' (1988).
    He labeled the United States as 'The Great Satan.'
    He is responsible for taking the U.S. Embassy in Teheran and keeping its occupants as hostages for 444 days (November 4, 1979).
    The Ayatollah had broken the code that all civilized nations had lived by, that of diplomatic immunity.
    Although the United States was in the humiliated position of recently losing the Vietnam War, having President Nixon resign because of Watergate and this incident, it tended to give a new resolve to the United States.
    In the final analysis, Khomeni demanded the return of the Shah, the Shah's treasury, a public apology and aid for its Islamic Republic, it got none of those.
    He sentenced author, Salman Rushdie, to death with 'I inform the proud Muslim people of the world that the author of the Satanic Verses book which is against Islam, the Prophet and the Koran, and all involved in its publication who were aware of its content, are sentenced to death.' (February, 1989).
    Rushdie is still alive.
    He imposed his religious dogma on the people of Iran.

    His father died when he was six months old, his mother and aunt died when he was 15.
    ABC began a nightly special with anchor, Frank Reynolds, reporting on the hostage situation in Iran, that show became 'Nightline' with Ted Koppel.
    He was Time Man of the Year (1979).
