Military Personnel
    (April 8, 1912- )
    Born in Rohrbrunn, Austria
    SS Officer
    Aide to Adolf Eichmann
Commander of the Drancy internment camp in France (1943-44)
Sentenced to death in absentia in France for crimes against humanity (1954)
Settled in Syria under the name Dr. Georg Fischer
Uncofirmed reports of his death in 1996
Unconfirmed sightings of him in 2001
He was described as 'the most cold-blooded murderer in Eichmann's retinue.'
He deported to death camps 45,000 Jews from Austria, 45,000 Jews from Greece, 25,000 Jews from France and 13,000 Jews from Slovakia.
He escaped detection after WWII partly because another SS officer, Anton Brunner, was confused for him and was executed for war crimes.
He left Germany on a fake Red Cross passport.
He became a 'government advisor' in Syria, which allegedly included teaching torture techniques to the secret police.
The Syrian government has consistently rebuffed efforts to apprehend him.
In a telephone interview with the Chicago Sun Times, he said, 'The Jews deserved to die. They were garbage, I have no regrets. If I had the chance I would do it again.'
Ironically, because of his small size and dark features, other SS officers nicknamed him 'Jew Suss,' after the protagonist of an anti-semitic film.
Anton Brunner was also responsible for deporting Jews from Vienna, so at least the screw-up that allowed Alois to escape did not result in the execution of an innocent man.
He lost an eye and several fingers on his left hand from letter bombs sent to him by Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service.
