He retired from acting at 40 to run his racquet club, but returned a decade later to act on TV.

He pioneered talking movies and TV sit-coms.
Despite being in his 50's he was the dashing heart throb on TV's 'My Little Margie.'
He had a thick but very pleasant Massachusetts accent.
He was an uncredited extra in 1923 versions of 'Ten Commandments' and 'Hunchback of Notre Dame.'
He and Janet Gaynor appeared in 12 romantic films (1927-1934). They were known as 'America's Favorite Lovebirds.'
He was married for over thirty-five years and spent the last twenty five years of his life as a widower.
They built a statue of him at the Palm Springs Airport. The statue is of him taking a tennis backhand shot (1999).
