Why he might be annoying:

He numbered his car 99, which was considered sacred in Canadian sports because it was Wayne Gretzky's jersey number when he played the NHL.
Players, a Canadian tobacco company, sponsored him.
Greg visibly wore the Players label on his racing uniform and furnished his car with the Players logo.
He looked like Jason Priestley.
Despite his impressive numbers during his first couple seasons, his times decreased dramatically in the later seasons.
He was more noteworthy for his friendships with Hollywood actors then his racing career.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the youngest driver to capture the flag in CART history when he drove the Milwaukee Mile in 1997.
His racing idol was Ayrton Senna.
Ashley Judd and her husband attended his memorial service.
He was known among his racing peers to be well mannered and gentlemanly.
His former namesake foundation provided funds to British Columbia's health care organizations and scholarships.
After his parents divorced, his father obtained sole custody of Greg.
He finished second to Alex Zanardi in CART Rookie of the Year voting (1996).
Contrary to popular belief, his number 99 he used wasn't a tribute to Wayne Gretzky, despite the fact he was an avid hockey fan.
Following his death, his hometown of Pitt Meadows, B.C. named a scholarship and youth center in his honor.
He introduced Ashley Judd to Dario Franchitti.
