The woman who appears as his wife in 'Nanook of the North' was not really his wife, but he acted like she was for the cameras.

Why he might not be annoying:

Although it was staged, 'Nanook of the North' was a milestone in documentary film making.
He made the whalebone club, which was shown in 'Nanook of the North,' and was an expert with it.
He starved to death on a hunting expedition.
Had he not died, he may have had a successful acting career, since many people in Hollywood became interested in him.
