    Recorded the albums 'Elvin Jones & Company' (1961), 'Elvin!' (1961), 'Illumination' (1963), 'Heavy Sounds' (1967), 'Polycurrents' (1969), 'At This Point in Time' (1973), 'Mr. Thunder' (1975), 'The Main Force' (1976), 'Love & Peace' (1982), 'It Don't Mean a Thing' (1993) and 'The Truth' (1999)
    Brother of trumpeter Thad Jones and pianist Hank Jones

Why he might be annoying:

    He was so obsessed with drums growing up that he would wander off to follow circus marching bands for miles.
    He failed an audition for Benny Goodman's band (1955).
    He married his second wife before divorcing his first.

    He frequently took part at free musical clinics in schools and prisons.
    He was described as a 'master musician who... drove other musicians to achieve their full potential.'
    He influenced rock drummers Ginger Baker and Mitch Mitchell, who was called 'my Elvin Jones' by Jimi Hendrix.
