Why Samarkand, Uzbekistan might be annoying:

    It has been invaded by various conquerors, such as Alexander the Great, the Arabs, Genghis Khan, Tamerlane, Nadir Shah, and Russia.
    Even though official sources cite Uzbeks as the majority of its inhabitants, observers and Western sources have claimed that Tajiks are the actual majority.
    It declined in importance when the Shaybanids moved their capital to Bukhara.
    When Persian-speaking refugees from Afghanistan and Tajikistan poured into both Bukhara and Samarkand, both cities witnessed campaigns for annexation into Tajikistan despite the lack of a common border with it.
    Its urban development is relatively more chaotic compared to Bukhara.

Why Samarkand, Uzbekistan might not be annoying:

    It is one of the world's oldest continually inhabuted areas, with human activity dating from the Paleolithic era.
    It has long been a major center of trade, culture, and religion.
    It also contains various historic landmarks owing to its rich history, such as the Registan, Bibi-Khanym Mosque, Gur-e Amir Mausoleum, Ulugh Beg Observatory, Shah-i-Zinda, and Afrasiyab.
    After the capture of two Chinese prisoners at the Battle of Talas, the first paper mill in the Islamic world was established there, from which the secret of papermaking spread to the rest of the Islamic world and then to Europe. (751)
    It has carefully preserved its ancient crafting traditions, such as embroidery, silk weaving, ceramics, carving, wood painting, and copper engraving.
