(1962), 'McLintock!' (1963), 'In Harm's Way' (1965), 'Cat Ballou' (1965), 'The Green Berets' (1968), 'Chisum' (1970), 'Big Jake' (1971) and 'Diamonds Are Forever' (1971)
    One of his early jobs was working in a slaughterhouse.
    He lost the part of the Ringo Kid in 'Stagecoach,' which became John Wayne's breakthrough role.
    He was married and divorced three times.
    The 2005 remake of 'King Kong' includes a dedication to the original film's other two stars, Fay Wray and Robert Armstrong, but omits him.
    He got his first movie role after impressing producer David O. Selznick at a Hollywood party.
