    Coached Heisman Trophy Winners Howard 'Hopalong' Cassady (1955) and Archie Griffin (1974, 75)

Why he might be annoying:

    He could be the poster boy for Anger Management!
    He had a quick volatile temper.
    During practice, he screamed at his players & assistant coaches.
    During games, he verbally assaulted officials, opposing coaches & players, sideline markers, photographers & TV cameramen.
    He ran the Big Ten Commissioner and 35 sports writers off the practice field.
    He was fired as Ohio State Head Coach after punching opponent Clemson Linebacker, Charlie Bauman, in the throat (1978 Gator Bowl).
    While attending a Cleveland Indians Game, he got into a shouting match with the Indians' First Baseman because he felt that the player was loafing.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a U.S. Naval Officer during World War II.
    He actively recruited African-Americans.
    He was among the first to hire African-American coaches.
    He frequently turned down pay raises, making him one of the most under paid coaches; but made sure his assistant coaches received increased wages.
    His best salary was $40,000.
    His phone number and home address were always listed in the local phone book.
    As an Associate Professor at Ohio State, he lectured on U.S., World, Political and Military History.
    He contributed to charities, especially those dealing with handicapped children. He often visited Children's Hospital in Columbus.
    He made four trips to Vietnam to visit the troops.
