Nickname is 'El Duque'

Why he might be annoying:

He got his nickname 'El Duque' from his biological father who was a baseball icon before the Cuban revolution.
He was banned from baseball in Cuba in 1996 after authorities learned about his plan to defect to the United States.
He was traded to the Montreal Expos in 2003 but he never played a game and spent all year on the disabled list.

Why he might not be annoying:

He followed his younger brother Livan's lead and defected to the United States.
He won three consecutive World Series rings upon signing with the Yankees.
He worked as a rehabilitation therapist in a psychiatric hospital after he was banned from Cuban baseball.
He became the first foreign-born player to start for the Yankees on Opening Day (2000).
He won the Thurman Munson award for his charity work as well as his accomplishments in baseball (1999).
He compiled a 129-47 record with the Cuban national team before his ban.
He is one of many players who George Steinbrenner brought back to the Yankees.
