    Subject of a Roman Catholic cultus (worship rite) widespread in Argentina

    Son of Mapuche chief Manuel Namuncurá
    Went to Turin to study to become a priest (July 19, 1904)
    Later transferred to the Villa Sora Salesian College in Frascati
    Died of pulmonary tuberculosis in Rome
    Reburied at Fortín Mercedes in Argentina, having been buried in Rome initially (1924)
    Declared venerable by Pope Paul VI (June 22, 1972)
    Beatified by Pope Benedict XVI (November 11, 2007)
    Subject of the musical play 'Zephyrin: The Musical', written by Jude Thaddeus Gitamondoc and directed by Daisy Brilliantes Ba-ad

Why he might be annoying:

    His name is somerimes spelled as Zefferino or Zeffirino.
    His father raised him in the 'white man's religion' just to maintain his leadership position.
    At school, he had trouble getting in line and follow the bell.
    His teachers sometimes reported him daydreaming during class.
    Veneration of him is often associated with elements of magic, superstition, and fetishism.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the first Argentine and native South American to receive the venerable title.
    According to legend, he survived a fall into the Río Negro river.
    He endured racism at school.
    Despite the racism, he never stooped to the bullies' level.
    He was an excellent student and choral musician.
    He gradually became a role model to his peers through his friendly and nice behavior.
