Why he might be annoying
In the minors during his 20s, he would start off impressively only to burn out by midseason.
He was brought up to the Dodgers only because the team wanted his battery mate, catcher Hank DeBerry, and had to take Vance as part of a package.
He would slice up the sleeves of his undershirt so the flapping cloth would distract batters. (Until the leagues banned the tactic.)
He was part of the base-running fiasco that left him, Chick Fewster and Babe Herman on third simultaneously.
When he joined the Cardinals, the team ended up with a Dizzy, a Daffy and a Dazzy.
Why he might not be annoying
After the Dodgers started using him every fourth or fifth game instead of the then-usual three, he started racking up incredible stats in his 30s.
He led the League in strikeouts a record seven consecutive years (1922-28).
In 1924, he had more strikeouts than any other two NL pitchers combined.
He threw so hard, teammate Johnny Frederick said he 'could throw a cream puff through a battleship.'
