    (August 5, 1906-October 17, 1998)
Best known for portraying Miss Jane Marple on BBC TV (1984-1992)
Acted in the 'Carry On' series (1957-1973),' 'Theatre of Blood (1973)' and 'The Taming of the Shrew (1980)'
She was typecast as senile old women, even when she was young.
Although she made many films, very few are noteworthy.
She appeared in the 'Carry On' series of obnoxious British comedies.
When she was a child, she got so excited about a play version of 'Cinderella' that she refused to talk for days.
Agatha Christie wrote her a letter and said: 'I hope someday you will play my dear Miss Marple.'
    Fifty years later, she did.
Her interpretation of the role was very popular, both with Christie-worshipping nerds and the public at large.
Queen Elizabeth was a big fan.
She won a Tony for the play 'Bedroom Farce' (1977).
She served as vice president of the Agatha Christie Society.
