Why he might be annoying:

He said he was fascinated with 'cruelty, fear, horror and death.'
Fighting for the Austrian Army, he got wounded several time before he was discharged for shell-shock (as a lieutenant).
Women were usually the downfall of the hero (just like in real life, they get in the way the man's goals!).
He developed a reputation for being difficult and abusive to the actors.
He wore a monocle.
When he fled Nazi Germany, he left his wife behind, and she advanced her movie career by writing and directing Nazi propaganda films.

Why he might not be annoying:

'Metropolis,' a German expressionist film about futuristic man-made machines that revolt against man, inspired James Cameron to create the 'Terminator' movies.
He studied architecture at an Austrian Technische Hochschule (Technical High School).
When he was 20 years old, he travelled to many places, including North Africa, Asia Minor and Japan.
He was drafted into the Austrian Army during World War I.
Joseph Goebbels, of the Nazi Ministry of Propaganda apologized for banning his film, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933), and then offered Lang a job as the production supervisor for Nazi Propaganda films. Lang told him that his 'mother had Jewish parents' (a lie) and then he fled the country that very day.
