Diagnosed with incurable metastatic breast cancer (2000)
Subsequently completed a full Ironman triathlon, two half Ironmans, three London Triathlons, three London Marathons and a New York Marathon

Why she might be annoying:

Her cycling tour across the US for charity raised only a tenth of its goal (2006).
She was criticized for spending time away from her children training and competing.
Some breast cancer groups urged her to take a lower profile, suggesting she was setting an impossible standard for other cancer patients.

Why she might not be annoying:

She raised 1.5 million pounds for charity by competing in endurance events.
Her doctors had expected her to die within a year after her diagnosis.
She was the first person to compete in a marathon while undergoing chemotherapy.
Her husband Mike said, 'It's really misleading to say that she's in some way neglected [our children], but frankly we don't mind it too much, as we know it simply isn't true.'
She was voted Most Inspiration Woman in Britain (2003).
