    Ancient Roman banker and man of letters
    Famous for his correspondence with Cicero
    Wrote 'Liber annalis,' or 'Yearly Accounts' (published in 47 BC)

Why he might be annoying:

    All of his works and writings are considered lost.
    He remained good friends with the Triumvirs who condemned Cicero to death, including Octavian adviser Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa (to whom he gave his daughter to in marriage).
    When he became terminally ill he resorted to assisted suicide/euthanasia.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Cicero dedicated his work, 'Laelius de Amicitia' to him.
    Cicero's letters to him (compiled as 'Epistulae ad Atticum') are considered among the most reliable sources of information for the period leading up to the fall of the Roman Republic.
    He was known as a man endowed with gifts of moderation and diplomacy.
    He managed to maintain relationships with the major political figures of the time, including Gaius Marius to Octavian, without ever actually participating in the rough-and-tumble of Roman politics.
    He is the namesake for the Atticus Finch character in Harper Lee's 'To Kill a Mockingbird.'
