Noted for using the twelve tone technique of composition
Wrote the operas 'Wozzeck' and 'Lulu'
Also composed 'Seven Early Songs' (1908), 'Kammerkonzert' (1925) and 'Lyric Suite' (1926)
Why he might be annoying
He had two middle names, one of which was Maria.
When he was 17, he fathered a child with a family servant.
He attempted suicide after failing his college entrance exams.
He was into numerology and had an obsession with the number 23.
The premier of his 'Five Songs on Picture Postcard Texts by Peter Allenberg' caused a riot and had to be halted (1912); the work would not be performed in full for another 40 years.
He died before finishing 'Lulu' and opposition from his widow kept anyone from completing it for 44 years.
Why he might not be annoying
Composer Arnold Schoenberg recognized his talent and took him as a pupil even though he could not pay for the lessons.
He wrote his own opera librettos
His operas were among the few atonal compositions to be successful commercially.
He died from an insect bite that became infected.
His works were banned in Nazi Germany as 'degenerate.'
