The Resume

    (May 22, 1915-May 7, 1975)
    Born in Lowell, Massachusetts
    Raised in Rock Island, Illinois
Drafted into the U.S. Army (June 1941)
Creator of the Sad Sack (Yank the Army Weekly, 1942; Harvey Comics, 1949–1982)

Why he might be annoying:

He originally planned on a baseball career.
He had only a few weeks of art training at night school before getting a post as a commercial artist (‘… pots and pans for newspaper advertisements’).
His entry for an early animation test (‘Bouncing Ball’) was perceived as too sadistic and hardhearted for Mickey Mouse works (read on…).
The Army Classification System found much more use for his artistic experience than he initially believed.
The ‘official website’ of his life and works does not allow copypasting or highlighting text from pages with his biography (though Google has ways around that).

Why he might not be annoying:

A graduate of Roosevelt High (Chicago), he drew pictures for their high school annual.
In his biography on sadsack.net, he went into significant detail about the animation process (particularly the way the aforementioned balls bounced).
He worked on the early Disney productions — particularly when thunderstorms, waterfalls, and fire were involved.
He based his signature character on his interpretation of how Army life really was.
Following WWII, he created an advertising campaign with the tagline: ‘Don’t be a Sad Sack, re-enlist in the Regular Army.’
