Why he might be annoying
He claimed conscientious objector status when he was drafted for the Korean War.
He played cowboys in three of his first four films, despite never having ridden a horse before.
The second film he directed, 'Damien's Island,' was never released (1977).
He left Knots Landing in a salary dispute.
Why he might not be annoying
As a conscientious objector, he was assigned to work with refugees.
He was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for his film debut in 'Bus Stop.'
His duties on 'Bus Stop' included grabbing Marilyn Monroe by the hips to keep her from wandering off her mark.
He suffered painful facial cuts when Monroe overdid it in a scene where she slaps him with a sequined gown. (Lacerations in return for constantly being in a clinch with Marilyn -- seems like a fair trade.)
