    (October 28, 1917-January 11, 1979)
    Born in Oakland, California
    Birth name was Goro Suzuki
Portrayed Detective Nick Yemana on Barney Miller (1975-78)
Appeared in the films 'Flower Drum Song' (1961), 'Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed' (1963), 'The Oscar' (1966), 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (1967), 'The Green Berets' (1968) and 'Return from Witch Mountain' (1978)
His birth year in different sources ranges from 1915 to 1917.
He was one of Hollywood's 'all-purpose Orientals,' playing a Chinese American in 'Flower Drum Song,' a Vietnamese officer in 'The Green Berets,' two Koreans in MASH and a Japanese American in 'Barney Miller.'
One of the running gags on 'Barney Miller' was the lousy coffee his character made.
He smoked, which probably contributed to the lung cancer that killed him.
He was imprisoned in an internment camp during World War II.
After his death, the other cast members of Barney Miller paid tribute to him in a special retrospective episode.
As he was being wheeled into the operating room, his last words to Hal Linden were, 'It must have been the coffee.'
