    (January 21, 1968- )
Born in Billericay, England, United Kingdom
Editor of the 'News of the World' (2003-07)
Communications director for Conservative Party leader/Prime Minister David Cameron (2007-11)
Arrested in connection with the 'News of the World' phone hacking scandal (July 8, 2011)
As a reporter, he asked Tony and Cherie Blair if they were members of the mile high club.
An employment tribunal ordered the 'News of the World' to pay £800,000 to a former sports writer, singling out Coulson for 'a consistent pattern of bullying behaviour.'
He resigned as 'News of the World' editor after one of the paper's reporters was convicted of hacking the phones of members of the royal family.
He resigned as Cameron's communications director following revelations that the phone hacking was much more extensive than originally thought, having targeted crime victims and the families of dead soldiers.
According to reporter Sean Hoare, he would encourage journalists to hack phones by asking, 'Why don't you practice some of your dark arts on this?'
He was described as 'a snappy dresser and a smart thinker.'
When he was at the helm, the 'News of the World' won Newspaper of the Year at the British Press Awards (2005).
Cameron defended his hiring, saying 'I believe in giving people a second chance. As director of communications for the Conservatives he does an excellent job in a proper, upright way at all times.' (2009)
He said, 'Tabloid newspapers in this country do more for its people than any other newspapers in the world.' (And in fairness, how many non-tabloids would go to all the trouble of hacking the voicemails of a thirteen-year-old murder victim?)
