Captured and held prisoner for 22 days along with 4 other soldiers including Jessica Lynch (March 23, 2003)
Suffered bullet wounds to each ankle

She received a fashion makeover from Patti LaBelle.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the first ever black American woman prisoner of war.
Her case, along with that of Native American Lori Piestawa, was overshadowed by the tale of Jessica Lynch, leading to what some deemed the media's 'Pretty White Woman Syndrome.'
She was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.
