Why he might be annoying:

His pitching was unsuccessful prior to settling as a third baseman after he signed with the Cardinals.
He was prone to back problems after he left the Cardinals.
He spent his later years of his major league playing career with underachieving teams.
He was the NL leader for committing errors as a third baseman (1963).
He was fired as the Cardinals' manager after starting off the 1980 season with an 18-33 losing record.
He was snubbed from the Baseball Hall of Fame even though the Cardinals retired his #14.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army.
He posted the record for the most home runs in 4 years with the same number (24, 1961-1964); a record he held until Adam Dunn recorded 40 home runs in each of the 4 years (2005-2008).
He smacked a grand slam off Al Downing that helped the Cardinals beat the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the 1964 World Series.
He and his brother Clete were the first brothers to hit a home run in the same World Series game (Game 7 of the 1964 World Series).
In Game 7 of the 1964 World Series, he recorded a double and a home run and scored three runs to help the Cardinals end their 18 year World Series victory drought.
He hit for the cycle twice (1961, 1964).
Lung cancer forced him to step down as the manager of a Triple-A team as he was scheduled to manage the team.
