    (February 8, 1850-August 22, 1904)
    Born in St. Louis, Missouri
    Birth name was Katherine O'Flaherty

Died after suffering a stroke at the St. Louis World's Fair
After she was widowed, she had an affair with a married man.
She began writing at her doctor's suggestion after suffering a nervous breakdown.
After 'The Awakening,' the story of a dissatisfied wife, was denounced as 'unwholesome' by critics, she gave up writing novels.
When she was five, her father died in a train accident.
When her husband, Oscar Chopin, died, he left her $12,000 in debt (1882).
'The Awakening' has since been hailed as early feminist classic.
