    Benefactor to the Collegiate School of Connecticut (later renamed Yale University)
    Died in England
    Buried in St Giles Churchyard (Wrexham, Wales)
    He married a wealthy woman in Asia, had four children, then she and the kids left him (1689).
    He smoked.
    He wore a curly red wig.
    When he return to London (after living in India for 27 years), he brought back a large fortune and was accused of 'sharp practice' (unjust business practices).
    He donated cartons of books and goods worth over $900 to help build a new building for the Collegiate School of Connecticut (1718). The school was later named in his honor.
    His son died an infant.
    His step-grandfather led 500 Puritans to Connecticut to buy land from Quinnipiack Native Americans. In the 1640's, they renamed the land New Haven (formerly known as Quinnipiac).
    His father moved the family to Boston, Massachusetts before Elihu was born to escape discrimination against non-puritans. Boston was just as bad and after Elihu was born, the family left for London, England.
    He wrote his own epitaph.
