    (June 9, 1906-May 24, 2011)
    Born in Paris, France
    First name pronounced Hyoo-gett
Daughter of copper magnate/US Senator William A. Clark
Inherited $300 million in 1925 (equivalent to $3.6 billion in 2010)
Her marriage to William Gower lasted only two years (1928-30) and reportedly was never consummated.
She became increasingly reclusive, believing that other people, including members of her family, were after her money.
The last known photo of her was taken in 1930.
She preferred to conduct all her conversations in French so people overhearing would be less likely to understand the discussion.
Her attempts to avoid the spotlight backfired when MSNBC ran a series of stories questioning her whereabouts and the handling of her finances (2010).
She was very close to her sister Andrée, whose death at 16 from meningitis shook her deeply.
She was an artist who had seven of her paintings exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. (Although it probably didn't hurt that the Corcoran had been the recipient of her father's art collection.)
A nephew said of her reclusiveness, 'She wasn't just sitting in a room herself all her life. She had a small group of friends, confidants and assistants.'
She was generous to those friends and assistants, for example buying homes worth $2 million for a longtime nurse.
