Poet
    (circa 55-127)
Birth name was Decimus Iunius Iuvenalis
    Wrote ‘Sixteen Satires’
Very little is known about his life.
He was reportedly cruel and cowardly.
His poems are angry and misanthropic.
He attacked the government, the rich, romantic love, women, homosexuals, and Roman pop culture in his satires.
He viciously attacked the Emperor Domitian when he didn’t get an imperial job he wanted.
His works were largely ignored in his lifetime.
His poems are often sexually explicit.
Domitian banished him to Egypt for insulting an actor he liked.
He wasn’t afraid to mock the rich, powerful and pretentious.
His works have influenced satirists like Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain, Anthony Burgess, and even ‘South Park.’
