Why Earthlink might be annoying:

Its name is Earthlink, but its logo depicts Earth with planetary rings.
It also depicts their customers as having planetary rings around their heads, making them look like they just got hit with a blunt object.
Some customers professed that it was nearly impossible to cancel their service.
They had kiosks inside Fry's Electronics stores.
They decided to move their call centers out of the United States (2005).

Why Earthlink might not be annoying:

It started with only ten modems.
Unlike other ISPs, it does not require its customers to use its software.
It is a leader in trying to eradicate spam and spyware.
It allows its customers a certain degree of freedom.
As of 2005, it is the largest independent ISP.
