Subject of the documentary 'The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack' (2000), directed by his daughter Aiyana

Why he might be annoying:

He ran away from home at 15 to join a rodeo.
He got his 'Ramblin' nickname not from his travels but for his long, convoluted stories. (Odetta claimed it was her mother who gave him the name, saying 'Oh Jack Elliott, yeah he sure can ramble on.')
    He has a nasal voice.
He said, 'I picked up a lot of good things from Woody and one or two bad habits. Ones that my wife left me for.'
He was rarely around when his daughter was growing up and she said, 'I can't remember ever having an actual conversation with my dad.'
His unreliability and lack of organization limited his career.
When he won a Grammy, he said 'I was going to use it as a hood ornament until I saw how nice it was.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He played alongside Woody Guthrie during the last tour before Guthrie became too ill to travel.
He was an important link between Guthrie and 60s folk singers like Bob Dylan.
He said about Dylan emulating him, 'A lot of people tried to make me angry about that. 'He's stealing the wind out of your sails,' they'd tell me, but I still had plenty of wind left.'
Dylan called him 'the king of folksingers.'
Mama Cass Elliot called him the sexiest man alive.
Allmusic said of his performances, 'The difference between Elliott's versions of the songs and those of your average folksinger is that he sounds as though he's having a good time.'
He received the National Medal of the Arts (1998).
