He was an ally to cruel dictator Augusto Pinochet.
He supported an El Salvadoran military ruler, Roberto D'Aubisson, who ordered death squads to kill civilians.
When confronted with this fact, he responded by saying: 'All I know is that D'Aubuisson is a free enterprise man and deeply religious.'

He suffered multiple health setbacks, yet still had an upbeat attitude.

He was a Shriner.
