The Resume

    (October 1, 1995-April 10, 2015)
    Born in Greendale, Indiana
Had diffused intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare form of terminal brain cancer
Played four games for Mount St. Joseph's University after her cancer diagnosis (November 22-December 16, 2014)
Runner-up for Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year (2014)

Why she might be annoying:

Her name was similar to singer/tax dodger Lauryn Hill.
She received first-team all-conference and other college basketball achievements despite only playing a few games.
She started a Layup4Lauren viral campaign that was based on the then-trendy ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
For her first game, the opponent gave up a home game, and the NCAA granted a waiver so it can be played two weeks earlier.

Why she might not be annoying:

She got the cancer diagnosis when she was playing at high school and after she committed to play at Mount St. Joseph's.
She was determined to play her senior high school year and get her wish to play in one college basketball game despite her cancer.
The first Mount St. Joseph's game was moved up since she was expected not to survive by the end of the year.
There was such a demand to watch her first game that it had to be moved to a larger arena.
Over 10,000 attended her first game (including Pat Summitt and several WNBA stars).
Her condition left her bloated, dizzy, and forced her to mainly use her left hand to shoot (she was right-handed).
Despite these hardships, she was able to make two layups during the game.
Beating the initial prognosis, she would go on to play in three more games and score six additional points.
Due to her advocacy, millions of dollars were raised for pediatric cancer research.
The Layup4Lauren challenge involved spinning around five times and attempting to make a layup with one's non-dominant hand, simulating what she had to go through on the basketball court.
She told the Cincinnati Enquirer before her passing, 'I don't want people to say I lost, or I gave up. I don't want that. I want: She kicked DIPG's butt.'
