    He turned down a baseball and football scholarship from Oklahoma A&M to play professionally.
    He fell asleep at the wheel, crashed his car, and spent seven weeks in traction (1957).
    He surrendered the walk-off home run to Bill Mazeroski that won the 1960 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He skipped a grade in elementary school and graduated as salutatorian of his high school.
    He was named MVP of the 1962 World Series, having posted wins in two of the last three games, including a 1-0 shutout in Game Seven.
    After retiring from baseball, he became a professional golfer and won the Midwest PGA Championship (1980).
    He and Tanya Simmons were married for 61 years.
