    (March 4, 1948- )
    Born in Wakatane, New Zealand
Birth name was Alice Lynne Murchison
Infant daughter Azaria disappeared during a camping trip at Ayers Rock, Australia (August 17, 1980)
Reported that Azaria had been taken from their tent by a dingo
Convicted of murdering Azaria (October 29, 1982)
    Conviction overturned (1988)
Published the autobiography 'Through My Eyes' (1990)
Portrayed by Meryl Streep in 'A Cry in the Dark' (1988)
By age 30, she had read only two books, one of which was the Bible.
She rejected a suggestion that she be hypnotized to improve her recall of Azaria's disappearance, saying 'The church wouldn't allow it.'
In a TV interview, she shocked viewers by dispassionately describing in grisly detail how a dingo eats its prey.
During the months before Azaria's disappearance, Ayers Rock head ranger Derek Roff had warned officials about aggressive behavior by dingos.
Several fellow campers saw a dingo near the Chamberlains' tent.
Aboriginal trackers followed a trail from the Chamberlains' campsite made by a dingo that appeared to have been dragging a large object.
The prosecution's main forensic evidence -- fetal bloodstains found in the Chamberlains' car -- was discredited when it was shown that the reagent used to test for the fetal blood reacted identically with a sound deadening chemical sprayed on the car during its manufacture.
She was pilloried in the media for not acting like a grieving mother 'should.'
The Seventh Day Adventist Church she belonged to was falsely accused of sacrificing babies in religious ceremonies.
