    (November 28, 1632-March 22, 1687)
Moved to Paris as a teenager
Birth name was Giovanni Battista Lulli

He was a professional dancer as well as a composer.
He thought other musicians were inferior.
Although married, he was a promiscuous bisexual.
His patron, King Louis XIV, disapproved of his affairs with men.
He was one of the most innovative composers of his day.
He was also an accomplished comedian and actor.
Despite disapproving of his lifestyle, Louis XIV considered him one of his best friends and always gave him work.
He contracted gangrene and died after crushing his foot with a heavy staff, which he'd been using to pound out the tempo for his orchestra.
