    (April 14, 1912-April 1, 1994)
    Born in Gentilly, Paris, France
Considered a pioneer of photojournalism along with Henri Cartier-Bresson
Notable for ironic, modest, and playful photographs of Post-World War II Paris from the 40s and 50s
Graduated from École Estienne with diplomas in engraving and lithography (1929)
Photographed for Renault (1934-1939), Rapho (1939), and Vogue (1948-1951)
Published book of photographs 'The Suburbs of Paris' (1949)
Photographed 'The Kiss by the Town Hall', or simply 'The Kiss' (1950), 'Picasso and the Loaves' (1952), 'Pinups' (1952), and 'Dog on Wheels' (1977)
Became Chevalier of the Order of the Legion of Honor (1984)
    Died in Montrogue, Paris, France
The areas of art he studied at École Estienne were hopelessly outdated and in disuse until France was captured by Nazi Germany.
When he first started photography, he was so shy that the only things he would take pictures of are street cobbles.
He was fired from the Renault car factory at Boulogne-Billancourt for being constantly late. (1939)
There was some confusion over the identity of the couple in 'The Kiss' until 1992.
He admitted that he staged the kissing in his world-renowned photo.
He was orphaned at the age of seven, leaving him under the care of an unloving aunt.
He was married to Pierrette Chaumaison for 57 years until her death six months prior to his own.
He used his artistic skills to aid the French Resistance during World War II by forging passports and identification papers.
He was a shy and humble man, which was reflected in his photography.
He never used photography to denigrate his subjects.
He preferred to use ordinary people as the subject of his photos over high society.
