The Resume

    (September 4, 1755-June 20, 1810)
    Born in Stockholm, Sweden
Count, Marshal of the Realm of Sweden
General of Horse in the Royal Swedish Army
Served in the American Revolution as an aide to General Rochambeau (1781)
Swedish ambassador to the King of France (1790-93)
Minister to the Emperor of Austria (1791)
Famous for his romantic friendship with the Queen Marie Antoinette

Why he might be annoying:

Marie Antoinette (allegedly) cheated on King Louis XVI with him.
The romance between the two was a badly kept secret and the gossip got to be so bad that he is believed to have left for America because of it.
Many believe that his efforts to save Marie and the Royal Family only sealed their fate with the Revolutionaries.
Specifically, his drafting a Manifesto signed by the powers of Europe promising to invade France if the Royal Family was harmed put the Revolution on war footing and strengthened the people's resolve to prevail by any means necessary.

Why he might not be annoying:

He and Marie Antoinette had been friends since they were teenagers.
He distinguished himself at the Siege of Yorktown and was promoted to the rank of Colonel.
He risked his life to save Marie and her family, even driving the carriage for their failed escape plot.
He was beaten to death by a Swedish mob, inflamed by rumors blaming him for the death of the Swedish Crown Prince.
He was portrayed by Tyrone Power and Jamie Dornan in films about Marie Antoinette (1938 and 2006 respectively).
He is believed to have been the only man Marie Antoinette truly loved. Their story is heartbreaking.
