The Resume

    (February 6, 1950- )
    Born in St. Louis, Missouri
    Roman Catholic priest and bishop
Ordained as a priest in 1976 and consecrated as a bishop in 2001
Auxiliary bishop of St. Louis (2001-02), Archbishop of Milwaukee (2002-09), Archbishop of New York (2009- )
Elected as head of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (November 16, 2010)
Education: BA in Philosophy from Cardinal Glennon College, STL from The Pontifical North American College of Rome, and PhD in Church History from Catholic University of America
Motto for his episcopacy: 'Ad Quem Ibimus,' Latin for 'Lord to whom shall we go?' (John 6:6-8)

Why he might be annoying:

Before becoming a bishop, he spent only seven years working in a parish and was never a pastor of a church.
    He blogs.
He has a profile on Facebook that he doesn't update.
During an outdoor mass, he wore a cheesehead hat in tribute to the Green Bay Packers (2002).
He said Notre Dame made 'a big mistake' inviting Barack Obama to deliver a commencement address because Obama's views on abortion differ from the Church's, but did not protest George W. Bush addressing Notre Dame despite the Catholic Church's opposition to the war in Iraq.

Why he might not be annoying:

He wanted to be a priest since he was a child and even pretended to say Mass as a little boy.
He's known as a 'moderate conservative.'
    He strongly defends his beliefs.
Known for his intellect and his personality, a fellow bishop once said of him, 'Not that many people can combine that intellectual depth and that jolly, outgoing personality.'
He's been given great credit for restoring the Catholic Church in Milwaukee after his predecessor was removed after being involved in a sex scandal.
He led Catholic Relief Services for three years and traveled to Haiti after the earthquake in January of 2010 to personally help.
