    (November 6, 1893-May 26, 1943)
    Born in Detroit, Michigan
    Son of Henry Ford
    Father of Henry Ford II
President and CEO of Ford Motor Company (1919-43)
Namesake of the Ford Edsel (1957-60)
Died in Grosse Pointe Shores, MI of stomach cancer at age 49
He lived in his father's shadow.
Though he was president of Ford, Henry always had the final say and vetoed several of his ideas.
Non-confrontational by nature, he tolerated his father's verbal abuse and corporate manipulation.
    He was a heavy smoker.
The car named after him undersold even the most modest expectations and is synonymous with dismal failure.
He was a skilled landscape artist and photography buff.
He convinced his father to change his 'Model T mentality' and offer a variety of auto body styles.
He was instrumental in Ford Motor Company's overseas developments.
He purchased the failing Lincoln Motor Company in 1922 and turned it into a money maker (and designed the Lincoln Zephyr and Continental).
In 1936, he co-founded, with his father, the Ford Foundation that promotes economic development, arts and culture, education and human rights.
He was president of the Detroit Arts Commission and main benefactor of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
He was a large contributor to Admiral Richard Byrd's North and South Pole expeditions.
Job stress and an overbearing father caused ulcers that became cancerous and led to his premature death.
Two Dearborn high schools bear his name and a portion of I-94 in Detroit is named Edsel Ford Freeway in his honor.
