    (September 22, 1918-February 22, 1943)
    Born in Ingersheim, Germany
Founding member of the White Rose resistance movement
    Brother of Sophie Scholl
Arrested with Sophie at the University of Munich for distributing anti-Nazi pamphlets (February 18, 1943)
    Executed by guillotine
    He joined the Hitler Youth.
He tried to keep his activities hidden from Sophie, but let her join the White Rose after she found out.
When he was arrested, he was carrying a draft for a White Rose leaflet written by Christoph Probst; he made no effort to hide or destroy the evidence, guaranteeing Probst's arrest and execution.
His and Sophie's belief that their execution would galvanize university students into activism against Hitler and the war proved incorrect.
He became disillusioned with the Hitler Youth and joined a subversive German youth movement until it was banned in 1936.
He witnessed anti-Jewish atrocities during a tour in the army on the Russian front.
His last words were 'Long live freedom!'
The last White Rose pamphlet was smuggled out of Germany, reprinted by the Allies under the title 'The Manifesto of the Students of Munich,' and dropped as millions of leaflets over Germany.
In ZDF-TV's 'Unsere Besten' poll, Hans and Sophie Scholl were jointly named the 4th greatest Germans of all time.
Holocaust historian Jud Newborn said, 'You cannot really measure the effect of this kind of resistance in whether or not X number of bridges were blown up or a regime fell... The White Rose really has a more symbolic value, but that's a very important value.'
