    (circa 1974- )
    University of Kentucky alumnus
Resides at the Kentucky State Reformatory in La Grange, Kentucky
    'Sniper-style' murderer
He shot Trent DiGiuro from long range with a high-caliber hunting rifle (July 17, 1994). The bullet struck DiGiuro in the temple, killing him instantly.
He blamed DiGiuro for rejecting him from a fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
At the time, DiGiuro was at a party being thrown on the porch of his house for his 21st birthday.
DiGiuro was an honor student and also a walk-on member of the UK football team.
The crime went unsolved until Ragland bragged about it his girlfriend in 2000.
After reading the story and the pleas of DiGiuro's father for someone to come forward, she contacted police.
For her trouble, Ragland's trial lawyer described her as an embittered woman with an agenda.
Ragland has never admitted to the murder, apologized, or shown remorse.
In 2004, the Kentucky Supreme Court overturned his 2002 conviction on a technicality.
The state prosecutor's criticism of Ragland's silence violated his 5th Amendment right not to testify.
Ragland's family wealth purchased him high-powered attorneys, and now, a new trial.
    He is in prison
    His brother committed suicide (1994).
He didn't disguise himself and try to skip to Mexico, like Scott Peterson.
Ragland may receive a harsher sentence.
As a college-educated prison wife, Ragland has likely gained an appreciation for the more peaceful, feminine aspects of his nature, which may make him less likely to provoke future girlfriends into reporting his crimes.
