The Resume

    (February 22, 2022- )
    Alt-tech social media platform
    Founded by Donald Trump
Run by Trump Media & Technology Group
Posts on the site are called ‘Truths’ and ‘ReTruths’
    Headquartered in Sarasota, Florida

Why Truth Social might be annoying:

It is a shameless Twitter clone.
Its name is stylized in all caps as TRUTH Social.
It was created as a direct response to Donald Trump getting banned from Twitter and Facebook following the 2021 Capitol riot.
It is a bid by the political right to appropriate the word ‘Truth,’ implying that rival social media platforms represent the antithesis of the word.
Case in point, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied Trump's application to trademark the name ‘Truth Social’ (as two companies already used the term).
It was almost immediately rendered obsolete when Elon Musk took over the platform and gave greater freedom to conservatives on the platform at the same time as Truth’s rollout.
It is almost exclusively known for being Trump’s personal bully pulpit (on which he can do things like call for the ‘termination’ of the U.S. Constitution and openly threaten special prosecutors overseeing his indictments).

Why Truth Social might not be annoying:

    Gavin Newsom uses the platform.
Devin Nunes randomly left Congress to become its CEO.
Its staying power has been stronger than initially anticipated, likely due to Trump’s refusal to return to Twitter even after Musk’s takeover.
It was ranked #101 in Apple's App Store rankings for social media apps of 2023.
It overtook Parler (the Right’s first attempt at a Twitter knockoff), pulling ahead of it in both App Store and Similar Web numbers.
It was approved for Google Play, in October 2022, after agreeing to enforce policies against incitement and hate speech.
It was first pitched to Trump by Apprentice alums Wes Moss and Andy Litinsky.
