The Resume

    (July 19, 1932-April 10, 2024)
    Born in San Francisco, California
Birth name was Frank Albert Johnson
General Manager of Hertz rental car operations in the US (1970-77)
CEO (1977-99) and Chair (1980-99) of Hertz rental car
Greenlit the decision to star O.J. Simpson in commercials for Hertz

Why he might be annoying:

He and O.J. frequently played golf foursomes with Hertz clients.
He kept O.J. on as corporate pitchman after he pleaded guilty to domestic violence against his wife (1989).
Coincidentally, he and O.J. died on the same day.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was married to Sarah Blakely for 67 years.
He founded his own rental car company, sold it to Hertz (1964), and began a quick rise up the corporate ladder.
He approved hiring O.J. despite concerns within the company that having a black pitchman might alienate their mostly white client base.
He sponsored O.J.’s membership in the previously all-white Arcola Country Club.
He claimed O.J. downplayed his 1989 assault against Nicole, and later said that if he had realized the severity of it, ‘O.J. Simpson would never have worked another day for Hertz.’
